Hunterdon Named One Of The Healthiest Counties In Nation Again

Hunterdon County has again received independent verification that the County is one of the healthiest places to live in the nation, with a report released by the U.S. News & World Report, in collaboration with CVS Health, Commissioner Shaun C. Van Doren announced at the June 21st Hunterdon Board of Commissioners meeting.

Van Doren, who serves as the Board’s Health Department liaison, stated, “The report lists the county as the 27th healthiest among its peers in the nation. It is always rewarding to have third party independent verification that Hunterdon County is the safest, best, and healthiest place to live and work.”

According to the Us News & World Report, the Healthiest Communities ranking project evaluates 3,000 counties and county equivalents on 89 metrics across 10 categories: Community Vitality, Economy, Education, Environment, Equity, Food & Nutrition, Housing, Infrastructure, Population Health and Public Safety.

The data is gathered and analyzed by the University of Missouri Extension Center for Applied Research and Engagement Systems.

Van Doren said, “The County’s Health Department has been a steadfast leader throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, not only in providing needed services for the public in response to the pandemic, but in continuing to its job in the many facets of protecting the health of all the communities in the County. And the latest report verifies those efforts.

Congratulations are due to not only the Health Department, but also to the many who help to keep the county healthy, particularly the Hunterdon Medical Center, our many health care providers around the county, our school leaders, and many others. I encourage all to keep up the great work.”
