On Thursday, October 5th, Commissioner Director Zach Rich, Commissioner Susan Soloway and County Clerk Mary Melfi, joined Hunterdon County employees for a walk around the Route 12 County complex in recognition of the fight against breast cancer. The “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” event raises money and awareness to help those currently undergoing treatment, along with survivors, family members and friends of those battling cancer.
Commissioner Director Rich shared, “I want to thank all the staff members who are participating in today’s walk and helping to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research. Each of us likely knows someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer and have witnessed their courage and determination throughout treatment.
The funds raised today really do make a difference and support cancer patients and their families during all stages of treatment and care. The enthusiasm and commitment of our Hunterdon County employees show how much cancer impacts each and every one of us. Thank you for all your support.”
Approximately 85 participants joined together in a sea of pink to support the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) fund-raising walk during their lunch break. All donations help the ACS fund more research and provide free programs and services for cancer patients and their families.
ACS estimates that in 2023, approximately 297,790 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the United States. With the exception of skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and unfortunately, will claim the lives of about 43,700 women this year alone
