Announcement of Hunterdon County Senior Center and Bocce Re-Opening

Updated: Jul 20, 2021

I had the opportunity to join some of the senior center bocce players last week for the first bocce games in a long time, as part of the re-opening for in person senior citizen activities at the center. Everyone was in good spirits and very happy to be getting back together and enjoying the bocce courts and good weather.

The Division of Senior Services is implementing the approved plan for in person activities which is designed to carefully bring back programming, while also continuing to offer virtual opportunities. It is quite natural that some residents are hesitant about returning to in person programs, so the Division is working to determine which are the programs that should continue virtually, and which will see substantial in person attendance. Our seniors should have the option. We said it would be a soft opening and the team is proceeding in that direction. Last week the in-person programs offered included Tai Chi, Move Tomorrow, Line Dancing, Needlework, Chair Yoga, Scrapbooking and Mat Yoga.

To ensure the health of participants and staff, the County’s Division of Buildings and Maintenance has engaged in additional cleaning and has been making improvements to air quality at the center, along with the other county buildings.
