Hunterdon County Commissioners Pay Tribute At Local Cemetery In Honor Of Memorial Day


In observance of Memorial Day, Hunterdon County Commissioners, Susan Soloway and John Lanza, recently visited the Civil War Cemetery, located on East Main Street, in Flemington, to place flags on Veterans graves. Memorial Day is the holiday set aside each year to honor, pay tribute to, and remember those who, while serving in our nation’s military, have paid the ultimate price, and never returned home. Commissioners Soloway and Lanza, who both serve as the Board’s Veterans’ liaisons, wanted to show their deep respect and appreciation on behalf of the entire Board, for all Veterans who defended this country. Acknowledging the many members of our nation’s military and their service to defend and maintain freedom for all Americans, does not go unnoticed. The Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners encourages everyone to take time on May 29th, 2023, to reflect on the cost and the value of our freedoms and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation. As President Abraham Lincoln said during his Gettysburg Address, “It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us, that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion, that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain, that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom, and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”
