Hunterdon County Department Of Human Services Hosts First of it's kind Senior Expo

On Friday, May 31st, the County Department of Human Services (DHS) hosted a Senior Expo event, at the Hunterdon County Senior Center, located at 4 Gauntt Place, in Flemington. The Expo was coordinated by, Alycia Wolf, Assistant Program Analyst and Jane Griffith, Social Worker for the Aging. This was the first ever Senior Expo event sponsored by the DHS, and it provided an opportunity for residents and people in the community to learn about local agencies, organizations, and companies that are focused on serving seniors.

Commissioner Shaun C. Van Doren, who also serves as the liaison to the Department of Human Services shared, “On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank Ms. Wolf, Ms. Griffith, and their team at the Division of Senior, Disabilities, and Veterans Services for organizing this Expo. Events like the Senior Expo provide a platform for seniors, caregivers, and family members to connect, learn and access essential resources.

From health screenings, housing alternatives, and wellness options, seniors gain valuable insight into local outreach programs that can enhance their quality of life.” The Expo featured representatives from various Hunterdon County offices including Social Work Services, Aging Disability Resource Center, the Prosecutor’s Office, and Health Screenings offered by the Public Health Nursing staff.

Additional vendors included: Meal on Wheels, Flemington Food Pantry, Helpline, Hunterdon Medical Center, Prevention Resources, Volunteer Guardianship, and Legal Services to name a few.

The Senior Expo was the first ever and was FREE to attend, no registration was required. Approximately 134 community members stopped by the event, that was open from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Snacks, refreshments, and giveaway raffles were also available for attendees.
