On Monday, July 15th, Commissioner Director Jeff Kuhl, was at the Raritan Township Municipal Complex, for the presentation of a $459,000.00 check by Congressman Tom Kean Jr., to be used for the purchase and installation of new generators at the Raritan Township Municipal Building and Police Department.
Director Kuhl shared, “We appreciate Congressman Kean’s ongoing advocacy and tireless work to secure important federal grant funds for Hunterdon County. The grant funds for the new backup generator systems for Raritan Township are essential to ensuring the continuity of local government and the continued delivery of important services during severe weather events and prolonged power outages. We appreciate the efforts of Representative Kean and the work he has put in to secure these funds.”
Also, in attendance for the check presentation were, Mayor of Raritan Township, Scott Sipos, Chief of Raritan Township, Al Payne, Deputy Mayor Bob King, Committeeman Scott Dade, OEM Coordinator, Chris Phelan, and various local firefighters and emergency personnel.
Mayor of Raritan Township, Scott Sipos stated, “This grant is a testament to the effective collaboration between federal and local authorities in addressing the needs of our community. Congressman Kean’s support enables Raritan Township to advance our emergency management infrastructure and significantly improve our resilience to ensure that critical functions, such as our Emergency Operations Center, continue uninterrupted during emergencies. This funding will make a difference in the lives of our residents especially at times when they need it most.”
Congressman Kean secured the $24 million in Community Project Funding for the fiscal year 2024, distributing it across thirteen (13) Community Projects spanning all six counties within New Jersey’s Seventh Congressional District. Community Project Funding is a process that allows members of Congress to request direct funding for projects that benefit the communities they represent. Each member may submit up to fifteen (15) projects.
Director Kuhl further stated, “A recent report concluded that most states receive more from the federal government that they pay in, New Jersey is one of thirteen states that actually receives less from Washington D.C. than it contributes. New Jersey receives the fourth lowest return on its tax dollars, and we are glad that Congressman Kean is returning some of our residents hard earned tax dollars back to our county.”
Additional monies through the Community Project Funding program were secured for Hunterdon County to help fund phases 2 & 3 of the new Emergency Services Training Center, in the amount of $3.192,000.00.
