$1.242 Million In Parks and Recreation Grants Awarded to Hunterdon Municipalities By Commissioner Board

At the December 17th Board meeting, the County Commissioners issued grant funds totaling $1.242 million to 19 municipalities through the Hunterdon County Municipal Park and Recreational Grant Program

Commissioner Director Jeff Kuhl stated, “Hunterdon County is known for its beautiful open spaces and abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities. These grant funds will help to upgrade existing parks and trails and make a number of accessibility upgrades.”

Applications for the Municipal Park Grants Program were highly competitive, with 19 municipalities seeking funds totaling nearly $2.4 million for just over $1 million in available funding. All applicants will be required to contribute 25% of the total project cost, through utilizing matching funds from private donations, municipal contributions, along with state and federal grants.

Director Kuhl shared in closing, “On behalf of the entire Board, I would like to once again congratulate each municipality on receiving these grant funds and we look forward to seeing the positive impact these projects will have on our communities.”

In attendance for the distribution of funds were mayors and council representatives from 12 municipalities, who shared how the money will be used to support new trail developments, renovations of existing park amenities, and the creation of accessible recreational areas for people of all abilities.

Among the municipalities in attendance were, Bethlehem Township, Clinton Township, Delaware Township, Flemington Borough, Franklin Township, Frenchtown Borough, Hampton Borough, Kingwood Township, Holland Township, Lebanon Township, Readington Township, and Union Township.

Municipalities unable to attend the meeting will receive their grant funds by mail and include Alexandria Township, East Amwell Township, Lebanon Borough, Raritan Township, Stockton Borough, Tewksbury Township, and West Amwell Township.
